I wasn't talking about the data so much as the hundreds of dollars of hardware that I'd rather not replace and have to set up all over again, and if you go through insurance that's more hassle plus if they hear you didn't even try to keep it safe might not pay.

I know security cables aren't perfect either, probably especially to pros, but they can slow someone down or deter people who don't have the necessary wire cutters with them, and are better than nothing.
